Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native was born and raised there. Pam the mother of Jazmine was once a backing singer with Philadelphia International Records. As a child the father of her was chosen as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historical building. The year 2005 marks her Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated She is an instructor in vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus in the contralto position, before joining the adult choir just a couple of years after that. Sullivan received little exposure to secular music. She recalls that she was singing as a soloist in a church service when someone recommended signing her on a gospel label. She did not feel ready for this mission. Then, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept the Grace of God" during it's Showtime at the Apollo. And the audience was very supportive. Stevie Wonder sang her part at her grandson's 13th birthday. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records around the age of 15. She recorded an entire album. However, this album did not see release. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott she produced some of the songs in her debut album such as the brash single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
